so it turns out im just not as crazy about watching movies as i thought i was. i'd rather spend the 4.99 each month on two diedrich cappuccinos. maybe its my choice of movies thats the problem - a little too obscure even for me. here's what i've rented:
Gandhi: This was a great start. A truly epic film that you dont hear about very often, if ever. on par with ben-hur, gone with the wind, etc. if i ever preach a sermon on turning the other cheek, i would show clips from this movie.
The Giant Buddhas: this was a fascinating documentary, tragic, fairly well made, interesting.
Taste of Cherry: one of the slowest movies i've ever sat through, with no reward at the end for my efforts. an iranian film about a man driving around town trying to find someone to bury him after he commits suicide. i dont even remember how it ends.
The Last Days: a documentary about hungarian holocaust survivors. i've seen images and footage of the holocaust before, but never like this. so disturbing and haunting. im sorry to say i didnt have it me to finish watching the whole thing. i just couldnt take it.
La Dolce Vita: a quintessential itialian film from 1960. i've been meaning watch this for a while. turns out i dont appreciate italian cinema as much i'd like everyone to think i do.
U2: Zoo TV: Live from Sydney: bono is ridiculous, this dvd was ridiculous. i guess they wanted to make it feel like i was really there... all i wanted was some normal concert footage. definitely fun and entertaining. but if you want to watch u2 on dvd get "Rattle and Hum", not this.
The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou: i really love the way wes anderson films are shot. they are just fun to look at. i still have this at home and might watch some of the commentary right after i post this.
so i've got one rental left before i cancel my subscription. any and all suggestions are welcome. what movie do i just have to see???

I really like you and think you are funny and great and all, so don't take this the wrong way... blagghhh with your choice of movies. Make your last one a good LIGHT movie; Hairspray :), So I Married an Axe Murderer, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, OOOhhh- rent this one, an oldie but a goodie-Nothing to Loose...let me know what you think.
If you rent Butch Cassidy I'll come and watch it with you...or you can bring it and watch it with me.
I saw taste of cherry and didnt think it was that bad but i wouldnt watch it again. and wes anderson films are always good. we should have a movie night when i get back please.
